About lease takeovers
In a lease takeover, your company takes over a running lease contract from another company. The monthly payment, the remaining term and the mileage allowance stay as they are in the original contract. You drive straight away, and the transferor is free of their monthly payments.
You are committed for a shorter period, often between one and three years instead of four. The monthly payment is usually below current market rates because the contract was signed earlier. And the car is already there, so you do not wait months for delivery.
The reasons are almost always commercial. An employee leaves, the fleet shrinks, the activity changes or the car no longer suits the business. Stopping early costs an early termination fee, so passing it on is the cheapest way out for the transferor.
Everything in the original contract moves across: servicing, tyres, assistance and insurance as agreed with the leasing company. What exactly is included is stated on each listing.
Approval and paperwork
Yes, and that is the heart of the matter. The leasing company owns the car and is a party to the contract; it screens the taking-over company and draws up the transfer documents. Without its written agreement nothing changes, however well the two of you agree. The transferor submits the request to their own leasing company.
Any company or sole trader with a Belgian company number. Every listing is in the name of the company offering it, and that name is shown before you get in touch. Anyone who wants their company number displayed as well ticks that themselves when publishing.
As soon as the leasing company approves the takeover. Expect a few weeks from first contact to handover of the keys. Compare that with the wait of several months for a new lease car.
Then the takeover does not go ahead and the contract stays in the transferor's name. There is no cost attached to a refused file. The contract simply stays on the marketplace for the next candidate.
Costs
Nothing. Listing a lease car is free, so are searching and getting in touch, and we charge no commission on a takeover. No listing fee, no subscription, no hidden costs.
That is between the two parties. Sometimes a transferor asks for a payment, sometimes they pay one themselves to get out of the contract faster. Leasechange does not get involved and keeps nothing from it.
Most leasing companies charge an administrative fee for the change of name. That amount differs per company and is separate from Leasechange. We state it on each listing as soon as it is known.
